NEWSLETTER Issue: 4.03

HEAD'S VIEW
It is with regret that I bring you news of Mrs Day's departure from Newbridge Primary School. Her last day will be next Wednesday 19th March. Mrs Day is moving with her family to Worcestershire and starting a new chapter in her life. We will be very sorry to see her leave us as she has been an excellent teacher who has served Newbridge Primary School, and before that Newbridge Infants School, with great distinction over the past four years. She has also been a great friend to so many in the school. Even worse, Jane takes her children, Jack (4A) and Lucy (Elm), with her and they too will be greatly missed. Our very best wishes go with them all.

The appointment of Mrs Day's successor in her PPA role in 1H and Willow classes is currently taking place and we will bring you news of that as soon as possible.

All those connected with Newbridge Primary School Association should feel very proud. Our association was entered by one or two intrepid NPSA members into the national PTA awards and from a large field we have been selected as one of four finalists for our ReNewbridge campaign. Representatives from the school have been invited to an awards ceremony in London at the end of April in which they will announce the winners – well done to us!

Just a little gentle reminder that next Thursday is INSET day and the school will be closed on Friday and Monday for Easter weekend.

Finally, one to leave with you with – one of our year 2 children looked across at the link building and then said to the lunch time supervisor: "Look, Mr Croker's house is nearly finished."!!

CELEBRATING WRITING
A kitten's way of sharing love
Kittens are cute
But they like to eat newts
They love their fish
As well as their dish
They love to play
Until the end of the day
They don’t bark like dogs
Thank god!
They have shiny eyes
Only to get more chicken pie!
They sleep on our laps
And take a quick nap!
That’s their way
Of sharing love!
Katie, Class 6B

CERTIFICATES OF EXCELLENCE – JANUARY
At the end of every month each class teacher has a very difficult decision to face. They have to choose the one person from their class to receive a Certificate of Excellence. The person they choose has to consistently be the best that he or she can be. That could be in effort and attitude, achievement, behaviour or citizenship. Sometimes it can be very difficult deciding as all of the children at Newbridge seem to work so hard and behave so well!
The people with their names here this month deserve congratulating. It is not easy to be awarded a Certificate of Excellence and they have done extremely well.

OUR TRIP TO OLDFIELD
On Tuesday 4th March 2008, year 5 (group 1) went up the road to Oldfield School. First we all went into the cafeteria and did a word search about the Olympic Games. Then we were put into two groups and went to our different classes. Our first class was ICT with the deputy head, Mr Hunt. We thought he was going to be really strict but luckily he wasn't! We learnt to make little animation thingies and we made the words move and change shape. Then we had a break in the cafeteria and all the big girls kept saying we were really cute (which we're NOT!)
Then we had maths. Oh no! Not maths we thought, but it was actually really fun! Mrs Holloway was really nice and we did the maths Olympics, which were loads of different events. After that we had lunch (yummy!) and then we got taken into the hall by two big girls (year 10's) both called Sophie. We did games in the hall, which was fun, especially when we played duck duck goose!
After that was technology, and we made wooden and plastic key rings. We got to use loads of machines, like the band-saw and the buffing wheel. The sandpaper thingy was the best! Then we made slime in science. That was classic! The teacher was funny and the red slime looked like fish guts before it was properly mixed in! Thank you for making our day such fun. We would love to come again! Thank you once again. By Ava and Hannah.
