HEAD'S VIEW
What is called 'wraparound' care has been a government target for primary schools for 2010. This year, we have achieved one of the cornerstones of that policy by providing care every day from 8am to 6pm. Thanks to the hard work of Mrs Kennaugh, Donna Swaby, Kate Auld, Mandy Hill, Donna Miles and Sam Mitchell, a warm welcome and a delicious breakfast are available from 8am for those who have signed up. This is complemented at the other end of the day by the After School club which has been run by the YMCA team very successfully for several years. I would like to commend all the staff who provide an excellent service with these clubs and emphasise how fortunate we are to have such a service. There are very few primary schools that can match it. I would also like to thank all those parents who find themselves on a waiting list due to a finite number of places available and, with one or two disappointing exceptions, show great understanding and humour.
Last Friday we said a sad farewell to Miya , whose family has moved away from the Newbridge area, and we wish her all the very best at Bathwick St Mary’s School. It has been a joy to have her at our school.

MUSIC LESSONS
As you are aware, peripatetic lessons have now started for this academic year. Children are given the opportunity of learning to play the guitar, drums, various brass instruments, flute, violin and cello. Lessons are taught in groups by a member of the BANES Music Service and are currently £65 per instrument per term. These lessons are organised in advance every June/July for the following academic year. As a result, children who did not apply back in the summer term for testing to start playing an instrument cannot start until next year. However if you would like to be put on the waiting list if a space in the timetable comes up, then please send a letter of interest with your child's name, class and the instrument they would like to play to myself via the office and I shall contact you when a space arises.
Many thanks, Miss Amies.

NEWBRIDGE PRIMARY SCHOOL ASSOCIATION
Invites you to a Cheese and Wine Evening Thursday 25TH September at 7.30pm
The association is a great fun way to get involved in our children's school and help provide those extra things that can really make a difference to school life. We organise entertaining and fun fundraising events and work closely with teachers to provide support for the School in practical ways.
Over the past year the NPSA has helped fund:
1. New musical instruments;
2. Library books for the new library;
3. Trips to the Roman Baths and American Museum;
4. Netball bibs and hockey goalkeeping kit;
5. 'Storybox' Theatre performances in school;
6. A new stage for the main hall.
We are always in need of extra support from parents. Every bit of time you can contribute is greatly appreciated and helps make the NPSA a successful part of Newbridge School. All Newbridge parents are automatically members of the NPSA and we invite you to a cheese and wine evening to meet other parents and find out more about how we support the school.
