NEWBRIDGE GROUNDFORCE DAY IS DRAWING CLOSER!
This is a call to arms …..or more like spades and trowels. Next Saturday 31st January we are holding the first of our three Groundforce sessions. Our aim is to start to turn the Conservation Area into a very special place of learning and fun for the children and community. In addition we would like to make our Spiritual Garden even more special and dig a few veggie plots too. We need YOU! The session runs from 9.00am to 1.00pm but don’t worry if you can only give an hour – that is great by us – the more help we have the more we can achieve. The intention is for these Groundforce Days to be family events so all ages welcome. Children must be accompanied by an adult please. If you would like to come please e mail Martin Powell on Martin.Powell101@googlemail.com or phone 01225 424765 so that we can plan equipment etc. He will also be able to tell you what equipment, if any, you need to bring. If you want to help but you do not fancy the gardening side then a steady supply of drinks, cakes etc would be most appreciated. Finally, if our glorious weather looks especially grim for that Saturday morning then a decision to cancel will be made on the Friday and a message sent out……….but we are sure it will be fine!

WELCOME
We welcome Remy who started in Willow class this week. Remy’s family and our school know each other very well as we had the pleasure of Remy’s sister, Darcy, being with us for seven years, leaving only last summer. Our best wishes go to Remy.
HELP – Can anyone help us transport the school staging to the Pavilion on 30th April for our massed concert? A van or lorry would be needed first thing and then the next morning to pick up. Please contact Lesley Houston or Jane Amies.
QUANTUM THEATRE
This is going to be a really exciting play about Forces which I know everyone in KS1 and KS2 will enjoy. Please can you send in your contributions as soon as possible, without more we may be forced to cancel. Thank you, Mrs Bradley (Science)

CERTIFICATES OF EXCELLENCE – DECEMBER
At the end of every month each class teacher has a very difficult decision to face. They have to choose the one person from their class to receive a Certificate of Excellence. The person they choose has to consistently be the best that he or she can be. That could be in effort and attitude, achievement, behaviour or citizenship. Sometimes it can be very difficult deciding as all of the children at Newbridge seem to work so hard and behave so well!
The girls and boys with their names here this month deserve congratulating. It is not easy to be awarded a Certificate of Excellence and they have done extremely well.

BANES HIGH FIVE NETBALL FINALS
Well done to all 16 children who took part in the BANES Netball Final last Thursday at the University of Bath. There were 10 schools from all over the authority who took part, all playing to a very high standard. Both Newbridge A and B played well and gave 100%. I was incredibly proud of all the children who supported each other and worked well as a team. Congratulations to the A team who have qualified for the County finals, which will be held at Clifton College on Friday 27th March. What an achievement!! Thank you to those parents who helped with transport and organising the teams.
Mrs Bartlett
(‘A huge ‘well done’ to all our netballers on representing the school so impressively. Clifton here we come! A big ‘thankyou’ to Mrs Bartlett and our parents too.’ Mr Croker)
FOOTBALL REPORTS
NEWBRIDGE A TEAM – Newbridge A first played Bathampton, we drew 0-0 but there were many chances. Our second game was against St Mary’s A team which we unfortunately lost 2-0. The third game was against Monkton Combe which we won 2-0. Our fourth game was versus WASPS and the score was 3-0 to us. Joshua hit the post from a defensive position whilst Lucas scored a fantastic goal from the halfway line. Our fifth and final game was against St Stephen’s, a very close game ending in a 1-1 draw. The scores on the board at this point were won 2, drew 2 and lost 1, giving us 8 points which didn’t put us into the semi-finals.
We would like to thank Mr Cumpson for organising our teams.

NEWBRIDGE B TEAM - On Saturday 17th January a group of Year 3 and 4 footballers entered the Annual 6-a-side Tournament at Monkton Combe School. We got our cup campaign off to a great start by beating Swainswick 5-0. Joseph bagging 4 goals and Thomas netting the other. In their second game Thomas managed to get his body on the end of a Sam cross to secure a 1-0 victory against St Mary’s B team. Unfortunately we lost our next game 1-0 to St Stephen’s after what many considered to be a lucky goal. But it didn’t seem to affect Newbridge B team as we beat Wasps 3-1 in a close game which saw 2 goal line clearances from Sam W. He also scored a goal and Thomas scored the other 2. In our final group game against Monkton Combe, which we won emphatically, Alex, Joseph and Sam scored the goals. Securing a 3-1 victory, which put us through to the semi-finals against St Mary’s A team. It was a resounding victory, the score line ended 5-0, Joseph taking 2 with Sam and Thomas following up with a goal each and finally a brilliant lob from Cassidy secured our place in the final against St Stephen’s.
The final was an epic game with few chances for either team. At the end, the score line was 0-0 which meant the game had to go into extra-time. In the first half of extra-time Joseph put Newbridge B team 1-0 up. In the second half of extra-time St Stephen’s equalized which meant the game had to go into penalties. Newbridge won 6-5 in a dramatic penalty shoot out, with Lucy’s wonder strike the pick of the bunch and Daniel’s heroics in goal securing a well earned victory.
We would like to thank Mr Cumpson for organising the team and supporting us until the end. It was an excellent tournament and we were all delighted to lift the Winners Trophy. The future of Newbridge football looks great!
By Joseph and Sam 4W
(‘Not only does the future of football look great but also the quality of these match reports! Congratulations to all the players and Mr Cumpson on a fantastic day’s football…… and a trophy too!’ Mr Croker)
NPSA NEWS
Nearly new uniform
The first sale will be during the next coffee morning on Monday 2nd March. Please dig out any old uniform your children have grown out of as we need lots more items to have a good stock for the stall! Just hand items in at the reception.
If an item has a school logo it needs to be the NEW logo, as the old one is defunct now! By the way, items with the old logo can be donated to the Ragbag Project on 01225 859409 to benefit orphans and street children in South Africa.
If you need to get some uniform in a hurry before the sale and would like to try us first then leave a note at reception stating what you need and your contact details. Thank you so much the generous donations so far.
Groundforce – 31st January - 9.00am – 1.00pm
If anyone would like to bake a cake or two for our first groundforce day - please either leave them in the Blue Room kitchen on the Friday after school or bring them along with you on the Saturday morning. Thank you in advance and I hope to see you there!
Quiz Night – Friday 6th February at 7.30pm
The popular NPSA quiz night is approaching and tickets have gone on sale via class reps this week! The price has remained at the great value of £6 per person – including a hot meal. Licensed bar on the night. This event is always fun and if you haven’t been able to come to an NPSA event before we’d love to see you on Friday 6th Feb. It’s all very informal.
We’re hoping to raise enough money to buy six new digital cameras for classrooms this time around. So come and have an enjoyable evening and provide a resource for your children at the same time!
Quiz teams should be between four and six people but if you haven’t got a team, we’ll hook you up with one on the night. There are a limited number of tickets – so buy yours as soon as possible either from a class rep or by returning the form below in an envelope marked ‘NPSA Quiz Night’ to Main Reception.
