HEAD'S VIEW
Today we say 'farewell' to Cynthia Seaman who has been a School Meals Supervisory Assistant at the Infants and Primary School for the past ten years. In that time she has been a most sympathetic and caring member of staff and she will be greatly missed. Cynthia moves on to a new chapter and a role at the 'Little'uns' nursery, working alongside her daughter, Emma. Our very best wishes go to her and her family for the future.
On Monday we welcome a new member of staff, Michaela Burman, who is taking over the teaching assistant post vacant due to Joan Williams' retirement. We are convinced that Mrs Burman has all the qualities to make a difference at Newbridge and we wish her all the best during her time here.

CERTIFICATES OF EXCELLENCE – JANUARY
At the end of every month each class teacher has a very difficult decision to face. They have to choose the one person from their class to receive a Certificate of Excellence. The person they choose has to consistently be the best that he or she can be. That could be in effort and attitude, achievement, behaviour or citizenship. Sometimes it can be very difficult deciding as all of the children at Newbridge seem to work so hard and behave so well!
The people with their names here this month deserve congratulating. It is not easy to be awarded a Certificate of Excellence and they have done extremely well.

FOOTBALL MATCH REPORT
On Tuesday the 22nd of January Newbridge football team played against Wasps. Newbridge got off to a flying start with an early goal from Bradley who hit a lovely shot into the bottom right hand corner of the net. Soon after another goal came from Newbridge which made the Wasps keeper parry the ball into Alex's feet to tap in to make it 2-0 to Newbridge.
The second half kicked off with Wasps pressuring the Newbridge goal. Sadly lots of attacks from Wasps ended in a goal, with the ball falling into the Wasps' striker who dinked it over Joe who so nearly made a brilliant save. Straight after that Wasps kept on pressuring the Newbridge goal which ended in another goal for Wasps’ to make it 2-2. After the Wasps goal Newbridge started to play a bit better but sadly Newbridge got caught on the counter attack and another goal went in for Wasps to make it 3-2. Ten minutes from the end Wasps put in another goal from their striker taking it round Joe to make it 4-2 to Wasps. The last attack led to a Newbridge corner. The corner was taken by Matt who spectacularly curled it into the top corner, it was a phenomenal goal.
The final whistle went and the score was 4-3 to Wasps which was a great fought game.
We would like to thank Mr Cumpson for coaching us, and providing the after match refreshments of biscuits and marshmallows, Miss Newton for refereeing and everyone else that came along to support us.
YEAR 5 NETBALL REPORT
On Monday the 28th of January 2008 year 5 and 6 netball played an interesting game against St Mary's. We were in two different teams. St Mary's didn’t have a full team so consequently three of our year 6's had to take their place. In the first quarter of the game we were lucky to have Emma scoring a hoop for Newbridge, but then St Mary's managed to score 4 hoops which put us off a little. With a little determination we managed to score 6 more lucky hoops which left the score 7-4! By Katherine and Isabella

NETBALL REPORT
A TEAM - On Friday 25th January Newbridge netball A Team went to the University to play in the BANES Netball tournament. The team played five matches against different schools.
In our first match we played against Westfield and got off to a great start by winning. The second match was as great a success as the first match, winning against Chew Valley 5-1. In our next match against St Mary's we kept up our winning streak; winning 10-0 with some great team play and some phenomenal shooting from Georgia and Tasharna. Our last group match was against St. Johns which we won 10-0 with some great partnership skills between Max and Sophie and Tasharna scoring 4 great goals.
Winning all of our matches meant we came first overall. Subsequently we got into the semi-finals against St. Stephens. The final Score was 6-0 to Newbridge. We will now go to a mini tournament against 2nd and 3rd place Chandag and St. Saviours.
We would like to thank Miss Wells for coaching us and all of the parents who helped and supported. By Max and Ellie.
