LIBRARY
A CHANGE TO LIBRARY OPENING HOURS

Due to unavoidable changes in Mr Day’s other commitments outside of Newbridge, the library will not be available after school for the immediate future, starting from next week. However, it remains our intention for the library to be open after school for our pupils and their families to come and use and we are currently exploring alternative staffing arrangements to enable after-school opening to restart as soon as possible. Once arrangements are in place, I will let pupils, parents and carers know. I am pleased to say that Mr Day will still be working in the library on Monday, Wednesday and Friday mornings and lunchtimes as now.

THANK YOU PUPIL LIBRARIANS!
The first group of Year 6 Pupil Librarians, who worked in our library since it opened for lending in November, have just stepped down to enable a second group of keen Year 6’s to take a turn in the role. Mr Day, our Learning Resource Centre manager, presented each of the outgoing Pupil Librarians with a special Certificate of Achievement in assembly last Friday.

“Everyone of the Pupil Librarians has been fantastic,” said Mr Day. “Our library now has over 7,000 books in its database and has made well over 2,000 book loans to the children, who seem to really enjoy coming to the library. Without all the efforts of the Pupil Librarians this would not have been possible.”

Mr Day would like to publicly thank and congratulate the following Pupil Librarians for their help: Hannah, Joda, Amelia, Harrison, Alayna, Sherilyn, Jake, Emily, Matthew, Jacob, Isaac and last, but definitely not least, Jasmin.

NPSA NEWS
Fundraising for Upper School Playground Equipment
Firstly, a big thankyou to everyone who came along to Monday’s NPSA meeting.

One of the key points discussed at Monday’s NPSA meeting was the new adventure / fitness trail equipment to be sited where the Year 3 double mobile used to be. With the remaining ReNewbridge money, plus the money that we have raised this year and not yet committed, we have about £7,000 to put towards this equipment. The school is seeking to supplement this with funds from its Devolved Capital budget which can be spent only on development of the premises, facilities and environment. Tenders are currently being sought with a deadline for submission by next Friday and it appears that a target figure of £15000 would provide a trail which gives flexibility of use and an exciting facility for children of all ages to use. However, the cost of safety surfacing is high and it may be that we build a trail now with a view to extending further in the future. The exciting news is that we are hoping to get this equipment built at school during the summer term, so that our Year 6 children have an opportunity to use it. However, in order to achieve this, we still need to raise at least £3,000 this year. We believe that we can do this with your help by supporting the cake sales, the disco on 15th May and the Summer Fair on 11th July.

We also wonder whether anyone has an idle sewing machine (for making costumes) or unwanted freezer (so that we can sell ice-creams/lolllies after school on sunny summer days) that they are willing to donate to school? If so, please contact NPSA via the tray in reception or email us at npsa@hotmail.co.uk.
