MESSAGE TO OUR NEIGHBOURS ...
Now that the dust has well and truly settled on our major building work, we would like to thank you all for your patience and understanding over the upheaval and disturbance caused. We are really pleased with our new facilities and we think future generations of children will enjoy the benefits. We would like to invite you for a tour of our school on Tuesday 16th June between 1.30 and 2.30pm. There will be refreshments from 2.00 – 3.15pm in the Blue Room. If you are able to come can you please contact the school office on the above number so that we can cater appropriately. We look forward to seeing you.
ASSISTANT SITE SUPERVISOR
We would like to make our facilities available for use by the local community. To progress with this we are seeking to appoint, with immediate effect, an Assistant Site Supervisor who would live very near the school. The key responsibility of this post is to open, close and secure the school premises for use by outside lettings. These would normally take place between 6.00pm and 9.00pm on weekdays. Pay is £6.39 per hour but this would increase depending on the number of rooms being let. After the first session of a new letting there would not normally be a need for the Assistant Site Supervisor to stay on site for the duration of the letting. Initially we expect only one or two lettings a week but this will probably increase over a period of time. If you are interested in this post please contact the school office for further details and an application form. Closing date for applications is Friday 22nd May 2009.

THE ORATORIO – WOW!
Well done and a HUGE big thank you to everyone who performed in “The Curious Adventure” last Thursday night at the Pavilion. You were absolutely amazing and we were very proud of you and all your hard work.
Mrs Houston
(‘A stunning performance! Congratulations to all 150 girls and boys who took part and what a treat to combine with Combe Down children and staff. A huge ‘thank you’ to Mrs Houston, Mrs Patterson (Combe Down music leader and Newbridge mum), Ben Fockens (the composer) and to all the staff and adults who did their bit.’ Mr Croker)
YEAR 5 – BATH PRIMARY ARTS FESTIVAL
Well done Year 5 for learning all the songs so quickly during Friday’s rehearsal. The massed performance in the Arts Festival is now scheduled for Thursday 21st May in The Forum – only one performance. Please make a note of the date in your diaries as all Year 5s are expected to attend. Thanks, Mrs Houston.
CELEBRATING WRITING
Journey to the Sun by 1R
I was travelling towards the sun; it was getting hotter and hotter as I got closer!
Suddenly, aliens attacked us! We fought the aliens. There was crashing and bashing and then the captain of the space rocket had a great idea. So he got a big mirror and bounced the sun’s rays back towards the aliens. Suddenly they burnt and melted into ashes and slime.
The people in the space ship were sad because they were peaceful people and they only went to the sun to get power to take back to their planet. They carried on and zoomed to the sun. They got power from the sun in big plastic bottles which they shoved onboard the ship.
They went back to earth and lived happily ever after.
GOLDEN BOOT AWARD
Two of our parents (and governors), Mr Hamilton and Mrs Hanney, introduced the idea of ‘The Golden Boot Award’ and this week we presented it for the first time. This award was brought in to encourage children to walk to school, use bikes or scooters, public transport or anything more eco-friendly than a car. The children’s teachers will fill in a form which gets added up. The class with the lowest points win and this week’s winners are 1H! We hope that this scheme will lower the percentage of cars that come to school to help the environment!
By Ava and Eloise
(‘Thank you for introducing this, Ava and Eloise. This impressive trophy, made by our very own Mr Cumpson and his son Will, will be presented weekly for the next three weeks to start with. This is part of our travel plan and the children are currently working on me to do my bit by travelling into school by bike. A 54 mile round journey …….. now that could be interesting!’ Mr Croker)
BLACK AND ETHNIC MINORITY PARENT GROUP
The next meeting for the Black and Ethnic Minority Parent Group is Monday 18th May at 2:45pm in the Library. The general consensus was that Monday afternoons were the best time to meet. See you there! (Please note date change)
SING FOR LIFE – SATURDAY 2nd MAY AT THE FORUM
Once again, I was so proud of the following children who took part in Saturdays Singing Workshop and performance led by Mike Brewer OBE. Well done Emma, Emily, Amelia, John, Abigail and Thea .

LINK ROMANIA SHOEBOX REPORT
There is a display in the Upper School entrance lobby of the shoeboxes being delivered and received - also a letter of thanks for all to see.
TAG RUGBY TOURNAMENT
On Saturday 2nd May two Newbridge Tag Rugby teams went to Odd Down playing fields for the BANES tag rugby tournament. The B team had 3 games to play against St Martin’s, St Mary’s and St Andrew’s. The first game was against St Martin’s. The result was 8-6. The tries were scored by Harry, Wilf, Max and John. Our second match was against St Mary’s which we unfortunately lost 9-4. Our last match was against St Andrew’s and we just won 8-7.
By Harry and John.
Newbridge Primary School A team played eight matches in all on a very warm day. We won five of our matches, drew one, in a brilliant game in which we showed the Newbridge fighting spirit, and lost two. The final match was our hardest because we had lost nearly all of our energy. We were losing 3-0 and sadly lost the game. We came 3rd out of 9, on the same number of points as the team in second place, and so were only two places away from getting through to the final. We would like to thank all our fantastic supporters and Mr Croker for coaching us.
By Oliver and Austen.
(‘All our children and parent supporters did us proud. Some great rugby, absolute togetherness and playing for each other. Well done!’ Mr Croker)
NPSA NEWS
Disco Night – Friday May 15th: 8.00pm – 11.30pm
If you haven’t got yourself a ticket then you had better get one soon, as sales are hotting up for this exciting evening out! Come and help us raise funds for the adventure play trail and have a great night out at the same time! Tickets are a reasonable £5 and these include not only a free drink and some nibbles but, also, free entry into our prize draw! A very reasonably priced bar provided by Great Western Wines makes it a cheap night out, especially as we all live within walking distance! Entry is not limited to Newbridge parents so invite along some of your other friends – it will be a great night! Paulo Baigent will be the DJ so please feel free to email him at speaktomegabriel@googlemail.com if you have any special requests! But, this is more than just a disco – there will also be a musical quiz going on alongside! And for those of you who just want to relax, catch up and have a drink – there is a chill out room. So come along and have some fun and let’s dance our way to our target!
A Big Thank You!
I would just like to say thank you to all of you who have been donating uniform to the school over the last few months. It really is appreciated and thanks to your generosity we have been able to build up a good supply. But please keep it coming, especially those items with logos!
Lost Uniform
A red reversible fleece jacket (of the Chelsea Road variety) has been found. It is labelled ‘Tom’ but with no surname. If you have lost this item please contact Sarah Kniveton who will be happy to reunite you!
Cake and Nearly New Uniform Sale – Friday May 22nd: 3.15pm in Lower School Hall
Following hot on the heels of the last cake sale (it has been a very short term!) comes the turn of Year 3 and Year 5 (yet again!) to make us as many delicious cakes and biscuits as they can! With our massive target of approx £3000 to make between now and the end of July for the adventure play trail, your school really does need your cakes!
Our stock of reasonably priced uniform will also be on sale alongside – so why not kill two birds with one stone and come and buy yourself a cake and pick up a bargain at the same time!
Help Needed
It would be really great if someone could volunteer to help our nearly new uniform coordinator, Sarah Kniveton, to set up the stall on the afternoon of Friday 22nd May. Your help would be needed from 2.30pm until pick up. If you are available, please send an email to npsa@hotmail.co.uk or pop a note in our tray in reception. Thank you!
