HEAD’S VIEW
Welcome back after what I hope was a scorching half term break in every sense! This beautiful weather heralds the start of an exciting eight weeks leading up to the summer break with so much to look forward to. Our Year 6 children and staff team are currently in the Isle of Wight on their residential trip. They are having a wonderful time and representing our school in such a way that makes us feel proud to be a part of Newbridge Primary. They will all certainly sleep well this weekend!
Exciting news of the adventure / fitness trail to be built where the old Year 3 double mobile was situated……….work is due to start on our new trail the week beginning 22nd June and it is estimated that it will take two weeks to complete. We are moving fast on this so that our Year 6 children, in particular, have a chance to use it before they leave. Our children have had a say in the design and we are all really excited about the opportunities for play and exercise it will bring in the coming years. However, we are going ahead still needing £3000 and this is where we need every last penny from the Summer Fair and any fund raising leading up to it! Our superb NPSA and school community will, we are sure, make it happen so all your support for the activities outlined in the NPSA news at the end of this and every newsletter is much appreciated.
I hope the following words do not bring a premature end to the summer but here goes! We reminded the children earlier this week about the importance of wearing a hat in such strong sunshine as they have the option of playing on the field at lunchtime and there is not too much shade. We have said that, as regards the field, ‘no hat, no play’ so your help in ensuring that your child always has a hat available, as well as a water bottle, is appreciated. We have school hats for sale and they can be bought at the school office from Lesley Waters at 3.15pm. Please note later in this newsletter, some reminders about uniform and PE kit. Next week Literacy Week!

Please could you ensure that your children have the correct PE kit for this term:
Red T-shirt

It would be incredibly helpful if you could label everything (you would not believe the amount of lost property and the number of items without names on!) Your co-operation with this would be appreciated.
UPPER SCHOOL SPORTS DAY
Upper School Sports Day is on the calendar for Tuesday 7th July. A letter will be sent out later on in the term but I thought it would be a good time to remind you of House colours and therefore T-shirt colours children will need:

Ospreys – Blue

UNIFORM REMINDERS
The vast majority of our children are beautifully turned out and reflect the standards we continually aspire to. However, we would like to remind our families of the following aspects of our uniform policy:
Socks must be grey or white (no sports socks).
Black shoes (or navy or black closed-toe sandals in summer) are to be worn in school.
No jewellery should be worn; only watches (Key Stage 2) and stud earrings are allowed.
Coloured nail varnish and cosmetics are not allowed in school.
Temporary tattoos or markings of any kind on arms etc are not allowed in school.
Hair longer than collar length should be tied back at appropriate times eg PE, Active Clubs, DT.
Thank you once again for your support.
NPSA NEWS
Coffee Morning - Monday 8th June - Lower School Hall: 8.50am-10.00am
Don’t forget to come along to the next coffee morning on Monday! (Please note change of venue). Not only will you be able to enjoy a cup of tea or coffee but homemade biscuits and cookies will be on sale! And unlike a coffee house, it won’t cost you an arm and a leg as hot drinks are on sale at 50 pence and the biscuits cost a mere 20 pence! You will also have a chance to purchase second hand uniform items from our stand of reasonably-priced goods or why not bring in a book and take part in our book exchange! Everyone is welcome and the more the merrier – so please come along and join the fun!
NPSA Committee Meeting – Monday 8th June - Blue Room: 7.30pm
If you have been to one of these meetings before – please come along and if you haven’t come along too! Our school association can only become stronger by more parents and carers getting involved – there is room for everyone! The meeting will begin at 7.30pm promptly.
Summer Fair - Saturday 11th July: 2.00pm - 4.30pm
A big thank you to all those children who entered the poster competition! We will be bringing you the results in next week’s newsletter! Your school needs you!
We thought it would be nice to try something new and get families involved more closely in the running of the fair. So how do you and your family fancy taking on a stall! This would involve setting up, manning and clearing up, so we suggest you share the task with another family or families depending on the stall. So, next week we will be publishing a list of the stalls and asking you to volunteer! Alternatively, if you have an idea for a stall which you feel confident that you could develop and run please let us know. Any ideas and help are always welcome!
Raffle
We are hoping to put together a really outstanding raffle this year with some great prizes but to do so we would really appreciate your help! So, if any of you can think of any prizes we can get our hands on, then please grab them for us! Or maybe you work for or run a business which could offer us a prize. If you do not wish to ask them yourselves give us the details and we will make the approach. The raffle tickets will be available in advance this year as well as on the day, giving you more of an opportunity to win those fabulous prizes!
Cake Sale
A big thank you to all of those who provided cakes for the sale at the end of the last term! And an equally big thank you to those who helped organize it! I am pleased to announce that we made an impressive £200!
(‘Thank you so much to the NPSA and all who organised and supported this and our other cake sales – we think you are brilliant!’ Mr Croker)
